Croatia was ranked as the 5th most desirable European destination at the 21st edition of the prestigious Wanderlust Travel Awards organized by the British travel magazine Wanderlust.
According to a statement by the Croatian National Tourist Board, Croatia is ranked higher than Austria, Switzerland, Portugal, Germany, and Scotland. Hvar Island was ranked 7th in the top 10 best island destinations in the EU.
In addition, Croatian Dubrovnik was declared the most attractive tourist city in Europe in terms of prices.
Earlier this year, the “Pearl of the Adriatic,” Dubrovnik was named one of the friendliest cities in Europe, finishing 12th in the Wanderlust Readers’ Choice Awards.
According to George Kipur, Editor-in-Chief of Wanderlust magazine, Croatia is “a country that offers travelers a huge variety of experiences, from unique nature and beautiful islands to historic cities and vibrant nightlife.”
Earlier, Croatian authorities reported that in August 2022, Croatian airports received a total of 1,773,000 passengers, which is 41.8 percent more compared to the same period in 2021, when 1,250,000 passengers were registered.
Compared to pre-pandemic levels in August 2019, international passenger traffic fell 9.2 percent this summer.
