Vacation on a Mexican beach under palm trees was interrupted by an unexpected incident: a coconut fell on the head of a tourist from a height of 3 meters – the knocked-out girl lost consciousness, reports Vallarta Daily.
According to media reports, the incident occurred in the resort of Nuevo Vallarta, rescuers provided first aid to the injured tourist.
“The vacation was interrupted unexpectedly. A coconut fell on the head of a tourist, and she lost consciousness for several minutes,” the newspaper writes. “After a quick medical intervention, the girl quickly regained consciousness and continued to enjoy her vacation without undergoing additional medical examination.”
Coconuts grow in many tropical regions where they are used for food and drink. There is an opinion that falling fruits can cause serious injuries, including concussions, but there are no exact statistics.
“There have been anecdotal reports of injuries from fallen palm fruit, including skull trauma. However, the risk of brain damage from a coconut falling on your head is quite low. According to studies published in the Journal of Travel Medicine, the risk is one case per 250 million. This means that the probability of dying on vacation from a lightning strike or a shark bite is much higher,” explains a Mexican source.
At the same time, the danger of falling coconuts should not be completely ignored.
“When relaxing near coconut trees, precautions are required – do not sit or walk directly under them, as well as pay attention to warning signs that are usually posted if the palm is tilted or has dry branches,” adds the Latin American portal.
