Dozens of flights from Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport were delayed or canceled today after baggage handlers from Ka El Em announced a strike on one of the busiest days of the year for this major hub airport. They are protesting against working conditions and labor shortages, the AP reported, citing the BTA.
The strike coincided with the first day of school holidays, when many families set off for the first time after coronavirus restrictions were lifted in many countries.
A statement from Ka El Em said the strike had “far-reaching consequences” for customers and other colleagues “at this stressful time”. The company added that it is currently negotiating with striking employees.
