Three young foreign tourists found themselves on the street in Turkey in the middle of the night after the hotel they had booked refused to accept them. What was supposed to be an all-inclusive vacation turned into a nightmare. The Daily Star portal drew attention to this story.
For 20-year-old travelers from Great Britain, a Turkish vacation promised to be bright. For a seven-day vacation, they paid the Loveholidays tour operator more than $1,800 and expected a relaxing time. However, on the night of their arrival, their expectations were not met.
The British were dropped off near the hotel, which turned out to be closed. The gates were locked and the security staff ignored the vouchers and denied the right to stay. “The security guard was looking at us, we tried to go through, but they kept saying, ‘Go find something else’ and that the hotel is closed to outsiders. We showed them the e-voucher with the name of the hotel, but they kept shaking their heads, they said later. – We were stunned. We were abandoned in the middle of the night in a strange country with nowhere to go. We went around the hotel from the other side and saw people on the balconies, asked how to enter – they said to go around from the other side, but the guard again refused access.”
The group walked the streets in search of a hotel of the same chain. However, when she found a suitable one, she faced additional problems. Instead of the promised level of comfort they had expected from their original reservation, they were given a room with one small double bed and one single bed. In addition, tourists did not like the lack of unlimited alcohol, which they were counting on. “We were told that after 11:30 p.m., that we can drink, but only water from the vending machine, and that it is dangerous to leave the hotel at night. They told us to go and lock ourselves in our room. We also paid extra for a larger room with a sea view, but did not receive it,” complained the travelers.
During the next two days, they could not contact their tour operator and decided that such a vacation was not suitable for them. In total, 48 hours after arriving in Turkey, a group of disappointed Britons returned home at their own expense. They spent almost another $700 on this.
The tour operator became aware of the incident after the British filed a complaint about improper service provision. A spokesman for Loveholidays said it was investigating the incident and apologized to the young people. A representative of the company confirmed that it would reimburse the cost of accommodation and offer them a $110 voucher for future travel.
