Russian tourists are threatened with mass deportation from Argentina – the country’s migration service has begun mass-rejecting Russians from extending their tourist stay and issuing residence permits. According to Kommersant, the head of the consular department of the Russian Embassy stated that there are already “several dozens of cases”.
“The migration service justifies its refusals with the Russian-Argentine agreement on visa-free travel. According to it, holders of Russian foreign passports can enter, leave, transit, and stay in Argentina without visas for no more than 90 days during every 180 days,” the diplomat said.
According to experts of the publication, “family tourism” could “incentivize” the situation. We will remind you about the scandal in February when six pregnant Russian women tried to prevent them from entering Argentina. As it turned out, in 2022, or rather after the start of the war, and in 2023, a boom in “family tourism” began in the country.
The fact is that the parents of a child born on the territory of this country can claim an Argentine TMP and an instant right to citizenship because the newborn receives it automatically. The Argentine passport is known as an “all-rounder”: it gives the right to visa-free entry to 171 countries, including the European Union, Great Britain, and Japan, and obtaining a long-term visa to the United States.
At the same time, a lot of money was made for Russian women willing to go: various packages of services were offered for future mothers who want to give birth in Argentina, from individual birth plans, and meeting at the airport to taking Spanish lessons. The companies themselves are usually based in Argentina. Packages vary from “economy”, the price of which starts from $5,000, to “first class”, the price of which starts from $15,000. At the same time, we note that medicine in Argentina, in particular for tourists, is free.
“We are aware of the situation with the practice of the Argentine migration administration, which has become more frequent, the issuance of negative decisions regarding the extension of the so-called tourist stay of Russian citizens who have come here again, the refusal of them to issue residence permits (and even the cancellation of previously issued ones), as well as in issuing the order in the shortest possible time under the threat of initiating the deportation procedure,” said the Russian “diplomat”.
