Antalya broke its record of records of the “post-colonial” era, welcoming the first million tourists two weeks earlier than last year. This was reported in the Turkish press concerning the governor of the resort.
According to the statement of the governor of Antalya, Ersin Yaziji, a total of 1 million 72 thousand 742 foreign tourists arrived at the resort. Thus, last year’s tourist record was broken two weeks ago — in 2022, the figure of 1 million was reached on April 23, and this year the number of tourists exceeded 1 million already on April 9.
“The countries that sent the most tourists to the city were Germany, Russia, England, and Poland, respectively. It is expected that the goal of 17 million tourists will be realized in 2023,” Yaziji said.
According to him, after “two stagnant summer seasons due to the coronavirus”, summer tourism began to revive in 2022, and the resort had “the best October and November of all time”. “We are hitting record after record every month, we reached April with a 60% increase last year. Everything is fine now, our expectations are very high,” the governor of Antalya assured. He also stated that 2023 should be a much better year for Antalya in terms of tourism.
He then listed the national distribution of the main markets, where there are no major changes. Tourists from Russia remain in first place for Antalya – their number was 30% of the total tourist flow, in second place – Germany with 24%, in third place – Great Britain. It is followed by Poland, Iran, Israel, the Netherlands, Denmark and Ukraine.
“We think we will reach our goal of 17 million. A good start has already taken place. The number of daily flights arriving from outside Antalya Airport has exceeded 100,” Yaziji added.
