In Egypt, all forces are thrown into the fight against the “Egyptian plague”: on the borders of the Red Sea province, where the popular resort of Hurghada is located, swarms of locusts are expected. These are swarms of yellow desert locusts moving from the Sudanese border.
In defense of the resort, according to reports in the Egyptian press, the staff and engineers of locust control bases – of which, by the way, there are as many as 54 in Egypt, including 13 main bases and 42 sub-bases for control, “equipped” with pesticides and special equipment, which allows to “meet” “locust” and conduct search activities in desert areas.
To prevent dangerous insects from entering the resort, specialists have been on “combat duty” for several days, “continuing the work of combating and dispersing periodic swarms of yellow desert locusts.”
“Officials of the control base confirmed that constant monitoring and coordination is being carried out, and road campaigns are being organized in the southeastern desert areas and even on the border with Sudan to conduct ecological studies and early detection of locusts,” local media reported.
