An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 occurred on the evening of October 7, 40 km west of the city of Herat in northwestern Afghanistan.
According to the Afghan government’s Ministry of Disaster Management, most of the dead were women and children.
The earthquake was also felt in the neighboring provinces of Badghis and Farah. After the first tremors, several more aftershocks occurred with magnitudes of 5.9 and 5.5. This was stated by the US Geological Survey.
