An American tourist fell out of a torn hammock, flew 15 meters down a rocky cliff, and miraculously survived. The Daily Star writes about it.
18-year-old Mackenzie Rackliff came to Hawaii from Florida on vacation and decided to hang a hammock on a rocky coast near Pepeekeo to enjoy the sea view. The girl settled in a hammock and called a friend – during the conversation, the product suddenly split in half, and the American fell out of it.
The tourist hit the ground and rolled down the cliff. Without having time to grab onto anything, the girl ended up in the sea at the foot of the cliff, where she briefly lost consciousness. When Ratliff woke up, she felt that she was being carried away by the current – the American had to get out on land despite the pain due to her severe injuries. To stop the bleeding, the girl made a tight bandage with the help of a bikini top and began to hum her favorite songs out loud to maintain self-control and calmness.
“My arm was broken – it stuck out in an unnatural direction. I’ve never seen bones before. My kneecap was visible from under the muscles, everything was completely torn,” recalls Ruckliff.
After 40 minutes, the tourist was taken by helicopter to the hospital. It turned out that the girl had broken her left arm, hand, knuckles, and eight dorsal vertebrae. The tourist also required muscle reconstruction of the knee and spinal surgery. According to doctors, the tourist miraculously did not remain paralyzed. Racliffe is raising money for rehabilitation, as her medical bills have already exceeded 194 thousand pounds.
