Cracks can be found on the wreckage of the Titan bathyscaphe, which indicates the cause of the explosion. This was reported by the Independent newspaper, citing an assessment by Dr. Jasper Graham-Jones of Plymouth University, who named a new cause of the explosion. According to him, it was an electrical accident that could have happened after parts of the vessel began to leak.
“Researchers studying the recovered wreckage of the doomed submarine Titan will likely look for cracks that could indicate what caused it to explode. It could have been an electrical disaster. It could be corrosion, it could be a fire. Any leakage of water that gets into the electrical wiring can also lead to a breakdown,” he said.
“Some pipes and parts leading to the outside” could also have started leaking, he said, adding that noise picked up by US military equipment indicated a more explosion. “The crack can be brittle or ductile and is associated with fatigue and delamination. By scanning under an electron microscope, you can see the fatigue and confirm the speed and direction of the cracks,” the expert added.
