The map of the most dangerous countries for travel in 2023 was published by the German organization A3M Global Monitoring, which is engaged in the safety of tourists around the world based on a global monitoring system. About it on the company’s website.
According to the report, the country’s risk assessment was based on categories such as entry/exit, transportation, available infrastructure, natural security, level of terrorist threats, strikes, etc. Analysts have divided the world into five levels of risk, where countries and cities are classified from “very low” to “very high”. Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, many “tectonic” changes took place on the map. Popular tourist destinations have also been recognized as risky for travel.
Among the most dangerous countries were Syria, Yemen, half of Africa (Libya, Somalia, Mali, Central African Republic, etc.), Ukraine, as well as Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, part of Pakistan, and Myanmar. On the map, they are marked in red, which means “very high risk”. For example, it was explained that Iran was “red” because of the protests that had been going on there for some time.
According to the classification on the map, the security situation in many countries of South and Central America has also changed. The risk of traveling in these directions has increased dramatically. So, travelers are not recommended to go to the southern part of Colombia due to increased crime and violence and to the northeast of Nicaragua.
Russia entered the list of “high-risk” countries. On the map, the territory from Kaliningrad to Kamchatka is marked in orange. “Travellers face a high level of risk and must be prepared for restrictions in the country/region, so special measures must be taken before departure (such as individual security plans). Trips to these areas are generally not recommended,” the description states.
According to experts, Venezuela, Papua New Guinea, and half of Pakistan, Egypt, and Chad are on par with Russia in the field of security. The organization noted that such countries occasionally experience periods of political instability, violent protests, and terrorist attacks, and travelers may be harmed by the actions of residents, religious fanatics, or racists. You should not rely on the protection of the police, because the effectiveness of its work differs depending on the region.
Areas such as Belarus, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, China, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Tanzania, the island of Madagascar, the eastern part of Egypt, Brazil, Peru, part of Mexico, Albania and Kosovo, are among the territories with an increased yellow risk factor.
The USA, Argentina, and most of Europe are recognized as low-risk countries for tourism: Sweden, Great Britain, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, France, Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic, Austria, Poland, as well as Malaysia and Australia. They are marked in light green on the map.
Canada, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Switzerland, Slovenia, and Luxembourg turned out to be the safest countries for travel.
