A loud scandal broke out in hotels in Turkey: the reception of tourists is threatened

The coronavirus epidemic and the resulting reduction in hotel staff in Turkey have turned into a major scandal between hotel owners and potential staff, who now can not be lured back into the hotel industry.

Due to the war, the reception of tourists is threatened: many hotels in Turkey are simply impossible to open, as unable to hire staff. Hoteliers complain that they can’t find “two people” for the maximum wage, and former workers who left Turgalin are very scathing about their proposals for the so-called “maximum” wage, calling it begging, the work itself – hellish, and their situation in the field of tourism – slave.

According to Jakup Demir, head of the Cesme resort hotel association, he cannot find employees even with a salary of 10,000 lira (UAH 18,000). “We are in a real crisis: we are suffering from a lack of staff. My friend-hotelier calls me and says he is looking for staff and asks for help. And before it was difficult to find staff for ordinary positions – cleaners, dishwashers, now we can not find anyone at the front desk. I need to hire 14 people at a resort hotel I run. And I was lucky, I was able to find seven employees. Some do not have this, they technically cannot open,” he said.

In the comments to the news, it should be noted that these “missing employees” actively responded to both work and salary, and very sharply:

“I worked in this slave system for 25 years, I am 43 years old, and in 25 years I could only earn a living and could not save anything. During these years I had no vacations or holidays. Now I work in agriculture – yes, I have two foreign languages at the level of my native language, experience abroad, but since I have not worked with you for the last 3 years, I am calm, I can go home in the evening and spend time with family. We have a lot of Syrians and Afghans – take them to your slave-owning enterprises,” one employee commented angrily.

“Do you offer your employees a maximum of 10,000 Turkish lira per month for three or four months? You have to pay at least twice as much to have something to live on until next season! I’m not particularly smart, I don’t pay rent for an apartment, my child goes to public school – but I can’t get less than 13 thousand a month, that’s the minimum,” others comment.

There is, for example, such an original comment: “If it’s hard to be a boss, it’s easy to be an employee, then give me a hotel, you will be an employee, you do not have 10,000 per month, but 20,000 lira for salary, insurance, food, and housing.”
