A former flight attendant revealed why she never takes a window seat

Колишня стюардеса повідомила, чому вона ніколи не займає місце біля вікна.

The window seat on the plane, which for some travelers is associated with the most comfortable on board, former American flight attendant Kat Kamalani, famous for her videos on TikTok, never reserves herself.

In one of her videos, she explained that she is guided by security. “I always try to get a middle or aisle seat and never a window seat for safety reasons.”

Users probably understood the flight attendant’s message. They referred to the incident in 2018 when tourist Jennifer Riordan died a terrible death: one of the blades of the airliner’s engine suddenly flew out and broke the window where she was sitting. The woman did not even have time to understand what had happened, how she was partially sucked into the porthole during the flight at an altitude of 10 thousand meters. The tourist turned out to be outside the plane and saved others at the cost of her life because she involuntarily closed the hole with herself.

However, not everyone agrees with the flight attendant. I’ve been a flight attendant for 14 years… I’ve never heard of anyone being safer in the middle seat,” her colleague countered. Another said that, on the contrary, she considers the seat by the window the most successful: As a former flight attendant, I always take a seat by the window for safety reasons. Strong turbulence – I will be safer by the window from all the luggage, people, and carts in the aisle falling on me.”

According to a study, the middle seat is the safest on an airplane in the event of an emergency. Thus, in a survey conducted by the Aviation Safety Network, 65 plane crashes were studied. It became clear which places were the safest based on survival rates. The middle seat in the back of the plane was considered the safest. Seats in the front had a mortality rate of 44%, while seats in the rear had the lowest mortality rate of 32%.
