The court in the Greek city of Thessaloniki was quick to pronounce a verdict. The day after the emergency landing of the Glasgow-Antalya flight, due to inappropriate behavior, the tourist was sentenced to 17 months in prison, suspended for 3 years, Proto Thema reported.
The incident occurred on October 15. Two hours after departure from Scotland, the captain was informed that a 61-year-old woman was hysterical in the cabin and that she probably needed medical attention. And he decided to land the plane.
The testimony of the crew members noted that the tourist first stood up in the aisle, and after a few seconds fell. While seating her in a seat, the flight attendants realized that the woman was drunk. For half an hour before the emergency landing, she constantly kicked her feet and banged her head on the front seat.
Trying to calm her down, they put an oxygen mask on her, which was immediately torn off. In response to the concern, the violent passenger began to beat those around her and even tried to bite them. The husband, who was sitting on the next seat, could not calm his companion down – she poured the glass of water he was given on her husband.
At the airport, police officers detained the troublemaker. The British woman was accused of obstructing traffic, disorderly conduct on board, and disobeying the orders of the pilot.
Initially, the tourist did not want to admit her guilt. However, having sobered up and appeared before the court, she apologized for what she had done. According to her, she had a panic attack: she took medication in the plane cabin and drank alcohol before departure.
