40 years in the desert: Elvis Presley’s private jet sold at auction

Elvis Presley’s private plane was sold at auction.

According to The Sun, the famous musician’s aircraft was “found” in the New Mexico desert.

Elvis Presley’s private jet, left to rust in the desert for 40 years, sold at auction for £216,000.

Bidding started from 81 thousand pounds sterling: the new owner of the aircraft made a winning bid by phone but remained unnamed.

It is known that Presley had several personal planes: the star performer bought the aircraft put up for auction in December 1976 for 694 thousand pounds sterling.

The exterior of the sold jet was damaged in the sun in the New Mexico desert, but the luxurious retro-style interior of the legendary musician remained.

“The plane’s previous owner was Californian businessman Jim Gagliardi, who bought the jet at auction for £36,000 in 2017.

He planned to use the iconic plane as a tourist attraction, but not only did he not bother to move it out of the desert, but he never visited it in his 6 years of ownership,” adds The Sun.

We add that the American singer and actor Elvis Presley popularized rock and roll, although he was not the first performer in this genre. He combined country and blues, giving birth to a new style of music – rockabilly.

More than a billion copies of the legendary artist’s records have been sold.
