Low-cost carrier Wizz Air canceled flights on the Odessa-Abu Dhabi route due to insufficient demand for this route. Such a conclusion can be drawn from the airline’s response to avianews.com request.
“Wizz Air constantly monitors the efficiency and demand of its routes in order to offer those that will better meet the needs of passengers,” the low-cost airline said.
The last flight Odessa – Abu Dhabi Wizz Air made in January. Initially, it was assumed that the airline would take a break for the winter season and resume flights in summer navigation.
However, in the end, the Odessa-Abu Dhabi direction completely disappeared from the list of Wizz Air routes. This usually happens when an airline decides to permanently close a route.
According to the Wizz Air booking system, the airline did not stop the development of the route network. She recently launched two new destinations from Abu Dhabi to Russia – to Moscow and Krasnodar.
Wizz Air first flew from Abu Dhabi to Odessa on October 7, 2021. The airline flew here on 239-seat Airbus A321neo aircraft of the Wizz Air Abu Dhabi subsidiary based in the UAE.
The launch of this flight was delayed for a year. According to the initial plans, the low-cost airline planned to fly from Abu Dhabi to Odessa on October 1, 2020, but repeatedly postponed the launch of flights. The airline explained this by low demand.
The route competed with Odessa-Dubai flights of another Emirati air carrier, flydubai.
What should passengers do?
Wizz Air reported that they had informed the passengers of the canceled Odessa-Abu Dhabi flights. They were offered to choose alternative flights or receive a full refund.
Another option provides that the low-cost airline will credit 120% of the ticket price as a Wizz-credit. It can be used to purchase new tickets and airline services, provided that there is a passenger in the booking in whose name the credit is credited.
