Thanks to the new destinations, it will be possible to increase the number of flights by 30 percent compared to the pre-pandemic period.
Turkish airline Anadolujet (a subsidiary of Turkish Airlines) will start direct flights from Ankara to Amsterdam, Tehran, Kiev, Cologne, Munich, Basel, Geneva and Lyon. This was stated by the head of the Board of Directors of Turkish Airlines Ilker IG.
According to him, the company aims to “connect Ankara with the world.”
IG noted that despite the fact that the new type of coronavirus pandemic has caused great damage to aviation, tourism and services, Ankara Airport in 2020 received flights no less than in 2019.
“Thanks to the new destinations, we will be able to increase the number of flights by 30 percent compared to the pre-pandemic period,” he said.
“Starting this spring, we will operate 56 flights a week to 22 destinations. Flights will be operated via AnadoluJet. We will connect compatriots living abroad, entrepreneurs, tourists, everyone. AnadoluJet will operate direct flights to 8 cities in Germany, two cities in Austria, Denmark, Sweden, France, two cities in the UK, Azerbaijan, Iraq, the Netherlands, Iran, Ukraine and Switzerland. Among them are 8 new destinations – Amsterdam, Tehran, Kyiv, Cologne, Munich, Basel, Geneva and Lyon, “said IG.
The head of the company noted that the opening of new flights will contribute to the development of services, education, healthcare and defense industry in Ankara.
According to the head of the Ankara Chamber of Commerce (TPA) Gursel Baran, thanks to the efforts led by his structure in 2019 at the capital’s airport “Esenboga” managed to increase the number of direct THY flights abroad to 18 international routes, and the frequency – up to 46 per week.
The head of the chamber stressed the importance of direct flights for the development of exports, revenue growth from contracting services, health and congress tourism in the Ankara region. According to him, in this regard it is necessary to launch direct flights to cities such as Almaty, Ashgabat, Bishkek, Tashkent, Cairo, Amman, Beirut and Erbil.
