According to Airport Haber, a new Rize-Artvin airport has opened in the north-east of Turkey. Turkish authorities expect that the new air harbor will become an air hub for flights to the Caucasus and the Middle East.
Rize-Artvin Airport is the second airport in Turkey and the fifth in the world to be built on a sea embankment. The length of the runway is 3 km, the height of the control tower is 36 m.
The air harbor has received international status and will serve about 3 million passengers a year. So far, it only accepts domestic flights from Istanbul and Ankara.
The Çaykur Tea Museum has already appeared at the airport and a mini-tea factory is operating. The design of the buildings also features tea motifs, a tribute to the traditional tea production in the region.
Rize-Artvin is located 34 km from the city of Rize and only 95 km from Batumi (Georgia).
