Egyptian authorities have announced the launch of a new low-cost airline. The low-cost airline will be named Air Sphinx and should start flying as early as this year’s winter season, Egypt Independent reports.
It is noted that the new carrier is being created in accordance with the instructions of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic as a measure to stimulate the incoming tourist flow. The airline itself will become a subsidiary of EgyptAir.
It is planned that Air Sphinx will operate flights both on foreign routes and on domestic routes. At the same time, as the low-cost airline model provides, ticket prices should be significantly lower than those of the parent company.
Air Sphinx will be based at the Sphinx airport in Giza, while there are several Boeing737-800s in its fleet.
“By launching a new carrier, EgyptAir aims to maximize its revenues and increase profits in the coming years, especially as the company suffered heavy losses during the peak of the coronavirus outbreak,” the Egyptian flag carrier said.
