Reuters reports that American airlines United Airlines and Delta Air Lines canceled more than 200 flights on Christmas Eve due to the massive infection of flight crews with coronavirus.
Thus, United canceled 120 flights scheduled for today, December 24, and Delta – about 90 flights.
Companies are contacting passengers to warn them of flight cancellations.
In a statement, United Airlines noted that the sharp rise in omicron infections across the country has led to massive morbidity among crews and dispatchers. Delta said it had exhausted all opportunities and resources, including changing routes, aircraft and crews, to operate flights before canceling them.
The airline also refers to the influence of the omicron strain.
