According to the Spanish Meteorological Service (AEMET), thousands of Spaniards are looking for a breath of fresh air, as the heat wave that hit the country yesterday broke the absolute temperature record of 47.4 degrees Celsius in Montoro, Cordoba.
“This is the highest temperature ever recorded in Spain,” AEMET spokesman Ruben del Cabo said today, stressing that these are temporary data that need to be confirmed in the coming days.
This temperature was recorded yesterday at 17.00 local time, which is higher than the previous record recorded on July 13, 2017 in the same area.
Shortly afterwards, the temperature at Cordoba Airport reached 46.9 degrees.
The heat wave continues in Spain today: thermometers show more than 45 degrees Celsius in many areas, and citizens move to the beach to cool off.
