The speaker of the lower house of the Russian parliament today proposed to deprive of citizenship “traitors” who oppose the invasion of Ukraine, citing the example of a journalist who held a poster against the war, according to BTA.
“The vast majority of our citizens support a special military operation in Ukraine, understand its necessity for the security of our country and our people. But there are also those who behave cowardly, treacherously,” said State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.
“They make statements, presenting them as their personal beliefs, as a struggle for peace, but in reality it all turns out to be a staging of NATO, where actors receive cookies from the State Department after fulfilling their role.”
Today, Marina Ovsyannikova received such assistance in the form of work in the company “Welt”, quotes Volodin TARS. “Unfortunately, there is no procedure for such” citizens of the Russian Federation “to be deprived of their citizenship and banned from entering our country. But, perhaps, it will be good,” he continued in his Telegram channel. “What do you think?” – He asked his followers.
In mid-March, journalist Maryna Ovsyannikova held a poster with the words “No to War” live on TV. She resigned from the Russian public television company First Channel. Today, the German newspaper Welt reported that it will work as a correspondent for Ukraine and Russia.
“Now it will work in a NATO country, justifying the supply of weapons to Ukrainian neo-Nazis, sending foreign mercenaries to fight our soldiers and defending sanctions against Russia,” Volodin said.
AFP notes that such a radical measure as deprivation of citizenship is unlikely to be taken without the approval of President Vladimir Putin.
