Access to the News.Google service is limited on the territory of the Russian Federation in connection with the provision of access to information about the war in Ukraine.
This was announced yesterday by the Russian media regulator Roskomnadzor, TASS quotes.
According to the report, this measure was taken at the insistence of the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office. The regulator noted that Russian law criminalizes the dissemination of disinformation about the actions of the Russian armed forces.
Google has confirmed that “some people in Russia are having difficulty accessing the Google News app and website, and this is not due to any technical issues on our end.”
The tech company said it is “working hard to ensure that services like News are available to the people of Russia for as long as possible,” Reuters added.
