Access to the website of imprisoned Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been blocked by telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor, according to Reuters.
Russian authorities have blocked both Navalny’s website navalny.com and 48 other websites of people and organizations associated with the Russian opposition.
The site was blocked a few weeks before Russia’s parliamentary elections in September. Last month, a Russian court granted the prosecution’s motion
recognizing Navalny-related organizations as extremist, effectively banning them.
Navalny’s close associate Leonid Volkov said on the social network Telegram that Navalny’s team will soon announce how it will react to the blocking of the site.
Navalny, who is the most notorious critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, is serving a two-and-a-half-year sentence, which he says is politically motivated. The opposition’s imprisonment strained relations between Russia and Western countries, demanding Navalny’s release.
