The Turkish housing market responded with growth to the announced mobilization in Russia. According to representatives of the republic’s housing sector, the increase was provided by Russian tourists who flocked to Turkey after September 21.
According to Bloomberg, representatives of the sector also said that the demand for housing among Russians increased even more after the announcement of mobilization in the Russian Federation. This was confirmed by the president of the Association for the Promotion of Real Estate Abroad (GİGDER), Omar Faruk Akbal. A similar observation was expressed by the chairman of the board of directors for the construction of Aşçıoğlu İnşaat Irfan Kuhçioğlu, Turizmgunlugu reported. According to the expert, he also recorded an increase in demand for real estate from Russia.
A sharp surge of interest arose back in February, with the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. And now, after 7 months, experts register a new and strong wave of demand for Turkish real estate. Thus, according to the Statistical Office of Turkey (TUIK), if Russians bought 8,115 housing units in Turkey this year, 1,238 (15.2%) of them fell in August. There are currently no statistics for September. In the full 8 months of 2022, from January to August, Russians bought three times more Turkish real estate compared to the previous year. As a result, Russians became the leaders among foreigners in purchasing housing in Turkey with a share of about 20%. Probably, the percentage of the presence of Russians will increase even more when the statistics of real estate purchases for September will be made public.
We will remind you, the Minister of Defense of Russia Serhiy Shoigu said that a total of 300 thousand reservists will be called up as part of the mobilization. To date, about 260,000 Russians have been mobilized (according to Russian mass media). It was after the announcement of partial mobilization in the country that the demand for air tickets abroad increased significantly. Google query statistics confirm the peak demand in Russia for trips abroad without a return ticket in the past few days, with searches such as “airline tickets”, “tickets” and “foreign” increasing significantly.
According to information published by ticket aggregators, seats on flights departing from the Russian Federation to many countries on September 21 were sold out instantly. Flight booking systems now issue blank pages for direct flights from Moscow to the UAE, Turkey, and Kazakhstan until the end of September.
