Thousands of people defended the freedom of the media in Poland. The largest rally took place in Warsaw. In addition to the capital, protests took place in almost 80 other settlements. The reason was a new law on the media prepared by the government. They say the goal is to protect the country from foreign interests.
This will be done by restricting media ownership by companies outside Europe. However, the opposition in Poland claims that the law is directly directed against the most popular TV channel Fal-Ann. He often criticizes the government and the ruling party. The media belong to the Discovery media group.
The Foreign Ministry in Washington said that if the law is passed, it will jeopardize all American investment in Poland.
