Yesterday in northern Peru there was a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1. The quake, registered by the Peruvian Seismological Center, occurred 12 km west of the city of Sula at a depth of 36 km, according to DPA.
Authorities said more than 40 people were injured in an earthquake in Peru yesterday, three of them seriously.
The quake damaged more than 180 homes and at least four temples. The facade of the cathedral in Piuri, built in 1588 and declared a historical monument, was also damaged.
The quake affected the entire region and neighboring Ecuador. People left the building in search of safety outside.
Landslides have been reported off the Pacific coast of Kolan.
President Pedro Castillo left a military parade in Lima on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of independence and went to Piura, according to the state agency Andina.
