Romanian Defense Minister Vasyl Duncu has said that Romania can accept more than 500,000 refugees in the event of a conflict in Ukraine, Adjerpres reports. “There are different estimates, but we can accept more than 500,000 refugees, a number we have prepared for together with the Interior Ministry and other institutions. A plan has been prepared in all major cities, there are areas for this near the borders,” he said.
Duncu noted that Romania does not expect large flows of refugees from Ukraine, as in 2014 (when Russia annexed Crimea – ed.) The majority went to Poland. “And now we do not expect large flows to come here, but you never know. So far we are talking about a hypothetical situation,” the minister added.
He stated that Romania is ready to withdraw Romanian citizens who are on the territory of Ukraine, if necessary.
