Former Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Thomas Greminger called the Ukrainian-Russian war the worst catastrophe since the end of the Cold War.
Director of the Geneva Center for Security Policy (GCSP) Greminger answered questions from an Anadolu agency correspondent on the sidelines of the Diplomatic Forum in Antalya.
According to him, the war between Russia and Ukraine seriously affects European security.
“In response to the actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, we have witnessed the unity of Europe, which we could not even dream of before. This cohesion is much stronger than many people think, including in Russia,” Greminger said.
The former head of the OSCE expressed skepticism on the issue of an early ceasefire in Ukraine.
At the same time, he noted that Russia has always been and will remain a part of Europe. “If we want security and stability in Europe, then we need to have a dialogue with the Russian Federation,” Greminger is sure.
The former head of the OSCE also considers the recent trilateral meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Russia, Ukraine and Turkey to be very important.
Contact between the parties is always necessary, he stressed.
