Canada is working on legislation to make it easier for refugees from Ukraine to obtain residence permits. Thanks to the new immigration program, Ukrainians fleeing Russian aggression will also be able to more easily apply for work and study permits.
Canadian authorities want Ukrainians and their immediate family members of any nationality to remain in Canada as temporary residents for up to three years. You will need to apply online and upload your fingerprints and photos. Refugees from Ukraine fleeing Russian aggression can simultaneously apply for work and study permits.
Ukrainians who have already settled in Canada will also be able to take advantage of the new facilities and be able to extend their guest status or work permit for three years, apply for a new work or study permit, or renew an existing permit.
More than half of the refugees ended up in Poland
Canada has a large Ukrainian diaspora.
Meanwhile, according to yesterday’s data released by the UN, since the beginning of the Russian invasion on February 24, more than three million people have fled Ukraine, of which more than half have taken refuge in Poland.
Canada will accept Russian property
The US and its allies on Wednesday appointed a task force to “seize and freeze” funds belonging to Russian oligarchs under international sanctions.
The REPO group (Russian elites, plenipotentiaries and oligarchs), which is supposed to coordinate the implementation and enforcement of sanctions against Russian oligarchs, includes representatives from Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, France, Japan, the UK and the European Commission, Reuters reports.
REPO will monitor compliance with the penalties imposed on 50 people, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
