The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that 92 cases of monkeypox infection were detected worldwide from May 13 to May 21.
Another 28 people are suspected of having the disease. So far, no deaths have been recorded, according to the organization’s website.
Cases have been reported in 12 countries. The top 3 included Portugal, Spain, and Great Britain (from 21 to 30 cases). Also infected have been identified in Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the United States.
Monkeypox is a rare infectious disease most prevalent in remote areas of Central and West Africa. Its symptoms are nausea, fever, rash, itching, and muscle pain. Cases outside the region are often associated with travel to epidemiologically disadvantaged areas.
The virus is spread through contact, but its virulence is low.
