WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has declared the monkeypox outbreak a public health emergency of international concern.
The monkeypox outbreak poses a moderate risk worldwide, except in Europe, where the risk is high, he said.
So far, over 16,000 infections have been recorded in 75 countries and territories, and five deaths. There is a clear risk of further international spread of the infection, “although the likelihood that the outbreak will result in disruption to international movement remains low at this time.”
