The incubation period is 5 – 21 days. Symptoms include high body temperature, back and muscle pain, chills, and fatigue. The mortality rate ranges from 4 to 22%.

Spain has become the third European country, after the UK and Portugal, where cases of human infection with monkeypox have been identified.
