In the Indian state of Kerala, the spread of a new virus – “tomato flu” has been recorded.
According to an article in The Lancet, almost 82 cases of infectious disease have already been reported.
The virus mainly affects children aged 2 to 5 years. Immunocompromised adults are also vulnerable to infectious diseases.
The new virus causes symptoms somewhat similar to those of COVID-19, but the two pathogens are unrelated.
Scientists are still trying to figure out exactly what the new virus is.
While it is known that the disease is not fatal, but is very contagious and severe.
The name “tomato flu” comes from the fact that sufferers develop red, painful blisters on their bodies and limbs that can grow to the size of a tomato.
Symptoms of the new virus, in addition to the rash in question, are high fever, severe joint pain, fatigue, and diarrhea.
