An outbreak of an unknown virus was recorded on board the Ruby Cruises cruise ship in the United States.
It is reported that 284 passengers and 34 crew members of the Ruby Princess cruise ship have contracted an unknown intestinal infection. Most patients have vomiting and diarrhea.
Sick passengers have been isolated in their cabins, a spokesman for the cruise line said. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a total of 2,881 passengers were on the ship, that is, about one in ten tourists caught the virus. The emergency is believed to have been caused by norovirus, a highly contagious virus that causes vomiting and diarrhea.
According to experts, the “quarantine ship” has already docked in Galveston, Texas, and tourists are waiting for medical help. Those are still trying to determine what caused the illness. Epidemiologists collect samples from passengers for analysis.
