In one week, the number of cases of monkeypox in the world jumped by 20%, the Director General of the WHO announced.
Currently, this disease is registered in 92 countries. Most patients are in Europe, the USA, and Latin America.
Health authorities are warning people who have been infected with monkeypox to stay away from their pets, as the animals are also at risk of contracting the disease.
There is already a confirmed case of infection of an Italian Greyhound (dog breed) in France.
Pets that have been in contact with an infected person should be isolated for 21 days, WHO recommends.
