179 people infected with monkeypox in the UK

The UK has reported 71 new cases of monkeypox virus infection.

The British Health Safety Agency said in a statement that with 71 new cases of monkeypox, the total number of cases had risen to 179.

It is emphasized that the virus does not spread between people as easily, but can be transmitted through close contact between people or clothing, bedding, or kitchen utensils used by a monkeypox patient.

The Health Safety Agency warns that while the risk to the UK population remains low, the public should be monitored for any unusual skin rash or sores.

Monkeypox virus

Monkeypox, known as one of the rare diseases caused by an endemic virus, is divided into two varieties: Congolese and West African.

The Congolese type of virus is known to have a mortality risk of up to 10 percent, while the West African strain has a mortality risk of 1 percent.

The virus, which is usually transmitted from animal to person and rarely from person to person, can cause high fevers and itchy blisters on the body.
