Dignitaries in ceremonial costumes gathered for the ceremonial opening of a pedestrian bridge in the Congolese capital, but the structure collapsed under their feet to the barely concealed joy of onlookers, BNT reports.
Just as one of the organizers cut the ribbon at a ceremony in Kinshasa’s Mon Ngafula district, the bridge buckled, two of its railings broke, and the central section fell into the stream several meters below.
According to reports, no one was injured in the incident.
