According to preliminary data from the Central Election Commission, the draft of the new Constitution of Kyrgyzstan may receive the support of the vast majority of voters. 77% voted for him – this is the result of counting more than 50% of ballots.
Kyrgyzstan decides the fate of the republic. The country held a referendum on a new constitution that approves the presidential form of government. If the reform is implemented, the powers of the head of state will be significantly expanded: in particular, he will lead the government and independently determine its composition, as well as be able to propose his bills.
“As you know, to date we have changed the Constitution many times over the past 30 years, and each time we have rewritten the draft Constitution from other states. To date, this Constitution has been prepared by us for the first time” – Sadyrov Zhaparov President of Kyrgyzstan
Constitutional reform and the transition to a presidential form of government were the main promises of Sadyrov Zhaparov, who became head of state amid a political crisis last fall. Zhaparov stated his desire to put an end to “personnel riots.” Opponents accuse him of trying to usurp power.
