President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed amendments to the Constitution, according to which the capital of the Republic of Nur-Sultan will again be called Astana.
Recall that in Nur-Sultan the capital was renamed on the initiative of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in March 2019 in honor of the first President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
In early September of this year, the deputies proposed to return the former name of Astana to the capital, arguing that it would be wrong to call the city by the name of a person during his lifetime. In addition, “the people also did not accept the new name of the capital.”
As a result, the proposal to return the former name to the capital of Kazakhstan was included in the constitutional amendments adopted on 16 September.
