Natural beauty of Kazakhstan: Buiratau National Park

Buiratau State National Park in Kazakhstan is one of the most popular places for local and foreign tourists.

Particular attention is drawn to the rocks and strata formed over the centuries under the influence of severe steppe winds.

The national park with an area of ​​89 thousand hectares is located 135 km from the capital Nur Sultan.

In 2011, Buiratau (translated from Kazakh – “Curly Mountains”) received the status of a national park.

Rocks and strata formed over the centuries under the influence of severe steppe winds attract the most visitors’ attention. The area, where there are 16 rocks of different shapes, is called “Falcon Mountains”.

From ancient times on these rocks lived such birds of prey as the golden eagle and the colorful falcon.

The most famous of the rocks is “Zhaushoki” (Enemy Mountain). This is the most popular place among those wishing to take an impressive photo on the cliff. The 450-meter high rock is also a favorite place for climbers.

In the park there are ancient monuments belonging to the Early Bronze Age and later, as well as an open-air museum, which presents stone statues of “Balbal”.

In the park in a natural habitat of 400 hectares live various species of wild animals, including argali, deer, wolves, foxes, marmots and others.

The park, decorated with pines and birches, is home to 160 species of birds, including 20 rare species, grows 250 species of medicinal herbs.

In the lakes in the park you can find curly pelicans, cranes and swans.

The park is guarded around the clock, the entrance to the park is strictly by registration. Tourists are advised to hire a private guide for safety, as in the park you can often find snakes, vipers and wild animals.

How to get there?

It is possible to get to the Buiratau Nature Park either as a member of an excursion group, through a travel agency, or on your own on off-road vehicles. To the branch Belodimovsky (Karaganda area) where the open-air cage is located, to get closer from the city of Karaganda. We go to the village of Youth (90 km), then another 80 km directly to the branch. From the capital to the branch of Belodimovsky will have to get around: Nur-Sultan – Mr. Osakarovka – 111 km. Next Osakarovka – Youth – 80km, Youth – Belodimovsky branch (aviary) – 80 km.
