According to Al-Jazeera, Iran suspended flights with Iran and closed all checkpoints on the land border with this country due to the aggravated political situation in Baghdad.
It is reported that the reason for the mass demonstrations in Iraq was that the influential Shiite politician Muqtada al-Sadr announced his final retirement from politics and the closure of all offices of the party after receiving threats against him. Then on Monday, demonstrators stormed the Republican Palace in Baghdad’s Green Zone.
The riots also spread to other provinces of Iraq, in particular, in the south of the country, where the Shiite community lives.
All of Iraq has been placed under curfew until further notice.
