The world’s largest community of people living and working abroad, InterNations has revealed the 10 friendliest countries for 2022.
The rating is based on a survey of 11,970 emigrants of 177 nationalities living in 181 countries. Thus, the friendliest country was Mexico. Nine out of ten respondents say that the local population is generally friendly. 89 percent believe that foreigners are treated especially well here. 75 percent of surveyed said that making friends in this country is easy.
Indonesia is in second place. Nine out of ten respondents stated that the local population treats foreigners well. And 46 percent believe that the locals are amiable and positive towards visitors.
Two out of three respondents report that it is easy for them to make friends in Oman. Nearly three out of four said it was easy to get used to the local culture, and four out of five said they felt at home in Oman.
Respondents from the Philippines performed best in the Finding Friends category, with 71 percent of people saying it was easy for them to make friends among residents. Four out of five respondents said that people in the Philippines behave in a friendly manner, and 78 percent feel at home. Overall, 68 percent of people here are satisfied with their social lives.
Brazil is fifth. The country has moved up from 10th in the rankings in 2021 to 15th in 2019. Although the report for this country is not listed, looking at the figures from previous years, it can be assumed that about 83 percent of respondents believe that the locals are friendly to foreigners.
In Vietnam, 83 percent of respondents see themselves as well-disposed. Seven out of ten feel at home here, and the American ex-pat said the “warmth, honesty and friendliness of the people” was one of the most enjoyable moments in the country. 83 percent of respondents consider locals to be especially friendly to foreigners. 54 percent said it was easy to make friends with locals.
Taiwan is the seventh friendliest country in the world, with 78 percent saying they feel good about the locals. Only 53 out of 100 respondents said they feel at home in Taiwan. Half of those surveyed said that making friends here is very easy. Note that the PRC considers Taiwan a breakaway province, which should return to China.
Thailand is in eighth place. 81 percent of people mentioned that the local population is friendly towards foreigners. 52 percent said it was easy to make friends with locals. 69 percent say they are satisfied with their social life in Thailand.
In Portugal, 77 percent said they felt good about themselves. 41 percent said they feel at home in Portugal. 51 percent of survey participants found it easy to make friends with locals. Only 67 percent of foreigners are satisfied with the social life in Portugal.
Bahrain is in tenth place. 70 percent feel the excellent disposition of locals towards visitors. 57 percent of those surveyed said that it is easy to make friends with locals. 77 percent believe that the local population is friendly to foreigners.
