The international chain RIU Hotels & Resorts, known to Russians for its popular five-star hotels in the resort regions, has blocked access to its website from Russia due to the cessation of accepting bookings from their country.
All these days, Riu.com is issuing messages to Russian users about technical difficulties, but it opens via VPN.
There are no announcements about the termination of work with partners from the Russian Federation on the site, there are no statements on this topic on social networks.
Observers do not rule out that other European hotel chains may follow the same path.
In addition to strategic issues, market participants’ relations with RIU Hotels & Resorts regarding previously made bookings remain unresolved.
RIU Hotels & Resorts is a Spanish chain owned by the TUI Group and has 90 hotels in 20 countries, including those popular with Russian tourists. These are, for example, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, as well as the United Arab Emirates, the Maldives.
