Hotel employees advise tourists to always look into the kettle when checking into a room to make sure there are no unpleasant surprises inside. Many people think that the kettle is washed after each guest, but it is not so, writes the Express publication.
Eshores’ team of travel experts from the UK spoke to hotel staff and found out everything tourists should know before check-in. “You should double-check everything you drink in your hotel room, according to the staff, who wished to remain anonymous. Guests have been known to add unnecessary items to the kettles, and the maids do not check these items daily. Never boil a kettle in a hotel until you have inspected it inside. Otherwise, you may not get the relaxing cup of tea you’ve been waiting for,” the expert said.
Hotel guests may think that the kettle is washed after each traveler, but this is not always the case. If the cleaners are in a hurry, they can only clean the dirtiest areas, such as the toilet and shower. Tourists should check the kettle every time they check into their hotel room to make sure there are no nasty surprises inside.
A representative of the expert team added: “Mini bars are also dangerous. One hotel employee recalls how a guest urinated into a mini-bar bottle and closed the lid. This was discovered when the next guest came and tried to drink! When it comes to drinks, check them out. Better to be safe than sorry.”
Minibar items are usually not free for guests, so some travelers may try sneaky ways to get around the charge. Although urinating into a bottle is a last resort, guests have been known to substitute water for their drinks. Tourists should only drink from sealed items and contact the front desk immediately if they suspect an item has been tampered with.
