Stupid fashion: Tourists hated the new-fangled showers in hotel rooms

New-fangled shower cabins in hotels at popular resorts have become the object of universal hatred. Such a summary was drawn up by experts of the British edition of The Sun, having studied numerous reviews of tourists. Guests were disappointed about the new trend in bathroom design, where traditional shower doors are replaced by glass screens without doors. “Stupid fashion” – they claimed.

We are talking about the Crittall-style door, which involves the use of side glass in a steel frame in the design of the bathroom, which instantly adds luxury to the room from the designers’ point of view. These screens are often large glass panels with an opening but, oddly enough, no doors. However, the fashion trend turned out to be impractical. Instead of creating the effect of dryness and safety, such open spaces turn the rest of the room into “one wet spot”, which upsets the guests and forces them to move extremely carefully so as not to slip on splashes of water. It clarified that, according to CN Traveler, complaints have come from annoyed tourists who don’t like having to deal with wet rooms after showering, and from people of a certain age who feel it’s unsafe and invasive of their privacy.

In response, Douglas DeBoer, founder, and CEO of Rebel Design Group, explained that guests feel a lack of privacy in such open bathrooms, especially in toilet situations: “Guests don’t like the concept of open bathrooms because there’s a lack of privacy—especially with toilets or when showering.

At the same time, Tom Parker, director of the design firm Fettle, noted in a conversation with the publication that this new style for hotels is an economic solution and is related to the optimization of space. “It is about turning the shower door because it must open outwards for safety reasons,” the interlocutor noted.

Glass bathrooms are becoming more and more common in hotel rooms, even though everyone seems to hate them. As an example indicating the scale of the problem, the newspaper gave the example of popular US comedian Chris Parker and his monologue mocking similar designs of bathrooms. According to him, no couple can survive a joint stay in a hotel with such a function.

Thus, commenting on the performance, one tourist told his story related to fashion design. The man said he and his girlfriend stayed at a hotel with “frosted glass doors that didn’t go all the way to the floor or ceiling” during a trip to Vietnam. They felt the inappropriateness of the trend when they got food poisoning.
