The expansion of the “Rixos empire” – a chain of 5-6* luxury hotels extremely popular among European tourists may be under threat due to mass protests.
According to Turizm Guncel, unbearable conditions and hordes of rats drove people in Rixos to revolt. However, we are not talking about tourists, but about workers on the construction site of another Rixos hotel located in Istanbul.
According to the publication, about 250 workers revolted against the working conditions at the construction site of the Rixos Hotel in Istanbul, where construction work is carried out by the Symbol Construction company. The reason is problems with housing, hygiene, ventilation, and nutrition.
The last reason for the scandal, which ended with the massive destruction of the work canteen, was the invasion of this canteen by rats discovered by the employees. “This is how workers are treated here: there are rats in the food!” – the publication cites a post on social networks.
At the moment, 7 workers, who were considered the instigators of the riot, have been fired. The rest still intend to break through “management’s ignoring of the situation” by any means.
We will remind you that the Rixos chain, the Turkish chain of “luxury” hotels, is very popular among tourists. At the same time, having started in Turkey, it is rapidly expanding – in 2012, a chain hotel opened in Egypt, at the moment they are in Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh; the group’s hotels can also be found in many popular countries – from the UAE to Kazakhstan. The network is also expanding in its “native” Turkey, having announced new hotels in Antalya and Istanbul, which was scandalized.
