Landline phones seem like a relic of the past. Such devices have not been installed in houses and apartments for a long time, since people prefer to use mobile communications, but they can still be found in offices. But not only. Such phones can be found in hotels, and the most unexpected place – a bathroom. DIP explains why hotels still have landlines in bathrooms and toilets.
This tradition appeared in the past when people could not even dream of mobile phones. Telephone sets were placed, as a rule, on bedside tables. But in high category rooms, telephones were in the bathrooms and toilets. This was a necessity for wealthy businessmen who were in almost continuous negotiations with partners located in different parts of the globe. Of course, they needed the room to have everything necessary for a habitual lifestyle, including telephones in the bathrooms.
In the United States, the AAA organization, the American Motorists Association, is responsible for assessing the status of hotels. The best hotels received the highest rating of “Five Diamonds”, in 2008 the presence of a telephone in the toilet was a mandatory requirement to receive such a rating.
Now the telephone in the toilet can be called an indicator of the high status of the hotel so that guests understand that traditions are sacredly honored here.
But there is another explanation as well. A telephone in the toilet may be needed in case a person becomes ill and cannot move, so he will have the opportunity to call someone for help. This is especially important for those who travel alone or go on a business trip.
