The Central Statistical Office of Ugrica (KSH) reported last year that the number of guest nights in commercial accommodation facilities in Ugrica increased by 446% to 951,000 in the winter, although the base is low due to travel restrictions caused by the pandemic. However, increasing prices, uncertainty caused by the Russian-Ukrainian war and the coronavirus, do not give grounds for optimism in Ugrian tourism.
The number of nights spent by domestic visitors increased by 338% to 504,000, while the number of nights spent by foreign guests increased by 656% to 447,000. 80% of nights were spent in hotels.
The most popular tourist region was Budapest-Middle Danube where slightly more than one fifth of inns were booked. The number of foreign guests was 170,000, who spent a total of 447,000 nights in the country.
KSH noted that the number of guest nights, as before, was 38% lower than the same month in 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic.
Experts also pay attention to the fact that in February lodging providers were optimistically optimistic and expected a resumption of tourism after the effects of the coronavirus at the beginning of the year gradually weakened. In fact, hotel prices began to rise sharply due to rising prices of energy, labor and food products.
However, in February the Russo-Ukrainian war forced more and more foreigners to cancel their holidays in Ugorsk, because many people believe that the Central and Nordic European region is too close to the site of the conflict. Meanwhile, although the coronavirus epidemic does not seem to be over, there are still no serious restrictions outside of China. So, in general, the prospects for domestic tourism are not very bright, but we can hope that the Russian-Ukrainian war will end soon, and domestic tourism will again be strong in the next summer, as in the past year.
