In the hotels of the popular resorts of Spain – the Balearic Islands, tourists will no longer be able to wash their hair in the usual way and even drink tea in the room. The reason is the struggle of hotels for greater environmental friendliness and in particular the ban on single-use plastic.
According to Spanish Tourism News, a special law has come into force in Spain banning the use of various types of single-use plastic. Thus, almost all disposable amenities familiar to tourists will disappear in hotels. These are not only shampoos and shower gels but also disposable toothbrushes, shower caps, razors, combs, etc. To environmental regulations, the use of all these disposable materials in hotels is excluded.
Moreover, other “useful little things” will also disappear from the rooms. First of all, the ban will affect plastic water bottles, which were traditionally offered to tourists at summer resorts. Also under the ban will be disposable drinks, that is, tea bags and coffee in the room. The restriction also applies to office supplies such as pens and notepads, and hotels will also have to replace flyers with their electronic versions.
At the same time, it is still unclear how the usual comfort of tourists will be provided in such conditions. Some experts, there are even statements that tourists will have to bring their shampoo or buy from “private distributors”.
